Billings K-8 teachers!
You are invited to join the first ever BPS Book Club April 4th-May 2nd, 2016! This idea was derived from the Global Read Aloud, which was created to encourage classrooms throughout the globe to connect by reading a story together.
Our BPS Book Club will focus on connecting classes here in Billings! Keep reading for more info and to sign up!
This will be a 4-week project that you’ll participate in with your students. You can choose to join in an author study (and read 4 picture books), or read a chapter book. Any grade level is welcome to join either the author study or chapter book club. It is all about conversations with your students and connecting with other classes to share ideas, projects and discussions about these stories.
The author chosen for the author study is Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
She is the author who was chosen for the 2015 Global Read Aloud. Her stories are fantastic and sparked incredibly imaginative projects and wonderful conversations between students during GRA. The books we will read are:
Week 1:
Week 2:
Week 1:
Week 2:
Week 3: Exclamation Mark
Week 4: Spoon
The chapter book chosen is A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff. Once you sign up, you will receive a “reading plan,” breaking down the chapters you’ll want to read with your students each week of the BPS Book Club.
To participate, you can sign up by clicking this link and completing the form. Once you’re signed up, you’ll receive information about the Book Club, including the participant list and the join code for our Google Classroom. The Google Classroom will be our “information hub” to share projects about the books and make connections with one another. You’ll be encouraged to reach out to other classrooms using Google Hangouts, Skype, Twitter, Seesaw, collaborative Google docs, Padlet … whatever you can think of that allows you to share and connect outside the walls of your classroom!
