Montessori Numbers App

Today we used an app called Montessori Numbers.  This helps kids develop number sense, and understand the correspondence between number and quantity.  It gives them practice working with groups of tens and extra ones.  They also get to practice writing numbers 1-10 on the app.  They enjoyed it!

Do You Like Spiders?

New App

Today we used a new app called Endless Alphabet.  This is a very fun and engaging app that reinforces letter names, letter sounds and teaches vocabulary.

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/endless-alphabet/id591626572?mt=8

We also have a two other "Endless" apps on our iPads, that we haven't used quite yet.  Endless Reader is similar to Endless Alphabet, but puts the words in sentences.  Endless Numbers reinforces number names and counting.  They are all great!

Batty for Bats!

We have been reading many stories about bats this week, both fiction and non-fiction.  We have Tweeted about some of the things we wonder and some of the things that we have learned.  Tomorrow we will write bat facts that we have learned, and then record these onto Kidblog.  Today we did this cute craft project from A Cupcake for the Teacher.  This was great practice in following directions and using scissor skills.  :)  They turned out so cute!

iRead

Students have begun using a computer program called iRead.  This is a research-based program for early literacy development, focusing on phonics skills.  It uses fun and colorful characters, graphics and songs to engage students in the reading process.  Students will spent 20 minutes a day on this program, 3-5 days/week.  It is self pacing, so all students will work at their own ability levels.  If you are curious about the program, you can click the image below for more information.  However, this is not a program you can do with your child at home.

Rectangles

Our special Shape of the Week is the rectangle!  We painted a large rectangle and learned this great new Rectangle song!  We also read this great book about shapes called Pick a Circle, Gather Squares by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky.

American Indian Tipis

We were lucky enough to be able to learn about American Indian tipis from some of our students, as well as see a tipi and sit inside of one.  We enjoyed this activity and thank Mrs. Rusche-Nicholson for arranging it!

Draw & Tell

New app alert!  :)  Today we used this awesome app called Draw and Tell.  It is one of my favorites, and we will begin using it lots in kindergarten to write, draw, and record our learning thoughts.  We used it today to make our own "Ten Apples Up on Top" drawings, then posted to our Kidblogs.  Enjoy!  Have a great weekend!  P.S. I posted this wrong on Twitter and said we used Chatterpix Kids.  That is another cool app that I will show you another time.  :)

Apple Graph

I am going to be home with sick kids tomorrow, so let your kids know we will do our apple "taste test" and graph on Friday.  We were planning to make applesauce on Friday ... if we don't get that done, we will make on Monday!  Thanks!

Triangles

We are learning our new Shape of the Week, the triangle!  We painted a big triangle, and sang this song.

Bugsy Math App

Another new favorite math app is Bugsy Kindergarten Math.  This is a fun app that covers many kindergarten math skills!

Bus Safety Field Trip

The students will be going on a short field trip on Monday, October 6th.  The school bus drivers will teach students bus safety rules and procedures, then take them on a short ride near Beartooth to practice.  A permission slip will be sent home today.  Please return ASAP.  Thank you!
