Book It!

Our class has begun participating in the Pizza Hut Book It! reading program.  Click the image above to be taken to the parent portion of the Book It! site for lots of great ideas to do at home.  An October reading log was sent home last week.  Track your child's reading progress, and earn certificates for free pizza.  You can also use RAZ-Kids reading to count towards your Book It! goal.  Happy reading!

Star of the Week

Evan did a great job on his Star of the Week poster and brought a yummy snack!

American Indian Heritage Day

Thanks to Mrs. Rusche-Nicholson, we had a wonderful assembly today with traditional Native dancing.  The kids really enjoyed it.

Teddy Bear Picnic

We had an "indoor picnic" today because of the weather.  The kids loved having their bear friends at school with them.  Thanks to Mrs. Brammer, Mrs. Nevin & Mrs. Stenberg for the treats.  Have a "beary" good weekend!

Sorting Teddy Bears

We spent some time sorting our teddy bears by different attributes.  We also sorted gummy bears.  The students did a great job of identifying new and interesting ways to sort the items.

Field Practicum Student

We are lucky enough to have a junior field practicum student from Rocky Mountain College in our class this semester.  Her name is Brianna Bauer, and she will be working closely with the students this fall.  I am hopeful that we will be able to use her help to start some small groups, such as Language for Learning and Handwriting without Tears.

Comparing Stories

This week we have read many versions of the classic Goldilocks and the Three Bears story, as well as Mo Willems' Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs.  We spent time making inferences about the stories, and comparing and contrasting things that happened in each story.  We made a Venn diagram with two Goldilocks stories, and the students wrote about differences between the bear stories and dinosaur story.  They really enjoyed these activities, and did a great job making these comparisons!

RAZ-Kids

I am super excited about this new at-home reading program for our kindergartners!  Your students will now have access to 100s of eBooks using our school's subscription to RAZ-Kids!  Your kids can read and listen to books and even record themselves reading.  Afterwards, they can take a quiz to check for comprehension.  Your child will be bringing their login information home today.  If you have any trouble or need assistance, please contact me and I will help.  Students will also have access to their books during school time.  You can also download a free app and access our school's subscription to use the Book Room on your mobile devices.  Click here to see information on where to download the apps.

Star of the Week

Audrey was our Star of the Week.  She did a wonderful job on her poster, and brought in a special show and tell ... her salamander, Wingda!  The kids loved watching Audrey and her mom, Mrs. Brammer, feed Wingda.

Star of the Week

Each week we will have a Star of the Week in our class.  Every child will get a turn to be Star of the Week.  When your kindergartner is Star of the Week, he will bring home a poster to complete to tell us about him and how he is special.  This should be returned on the following Monday.  You can include photos if you would like.  Your child can also bring in a show and tell item and a special treat.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

Our class will be visiting the J & K Farms pumpkin patch outside of Laurel on Friday, October 11th. Cost of the field trip is $7.  Permission slips were sent home last week.  If you need another copy, please click here.  If you available to chaperone, we would love to have you.  Just be sure you have completed the volunteer paperwork and background check beforehand.  If you don't have the paperwork, you can get from the office or let me know and I will send home with your son or daughter. Thank you!

Teddy Bear Picnic

On Friday, September 27th we will have a Teddy Bear picnic to celebrate the end of "Teddy Bear Week" in kindergarten.  Kindergartners will be able to bring their teddy bear (or other favorite stuffed animal) to school to enjoy the picnic with us.  We will sort, graph and write about our stuffed friends.  We will also need treats for the picnic - if anyone is able to provide some, please let me know!

PlayDough 10 Frames

Today we practiced building numbers in 10 frames using PlayDough.  The kids did a great job with these number concepts, and had fun with the PlayDough!

Student of the Month

Each month we will have a Student of the Month who gets to eat a McDonald's lunch with Mrs. McCall.  I choose based on who is a good listener, a good friend to others, and who always tries their best.  Emilee is our Student of the Month for September!
