Dental Health

We have spent this week talking about keeping our teeth healthy!  Today we did an art project from Sarah Cooley's awesome unit.  We made these teeth and labeled the enamel, dentin and pulp layers.

Spirit Day

Tomorrow is a Student Council-sponsored "spirit day".  Kids can wear pajamas to school.  Please be sure they are warm and school-appropriate.  If it is warm enough to go outside, we will go, so remember they still need boots, coats, hats, gloves, etc.

Star of the Week

Celebrating our Country

We are learning about ways that we celebrate, and celebrating our country.  We talked and wrote about the presidents, and made these cool flags.  We learned that flags are a symbol of our country.

Love these cute craft projects from A Cupcake for the Teacher.

Snowy Day

I haven't seen this much snow in a long time!!!
This is the view outside our door!

George Washington

This week we have watched videos and read stories about George Washington.  Today we discussed all of the things we learned about George Washington, and made them into a Word Cloud.
Then, we each wrote one or two sentences about President Washington.  We are making those sentences into an eBook about George Washington using the iPad app Book Creator.  I am so excited to share the finished product with you!

Dr. Seuss Celebration

Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day are right around the corner.  We will begin a fun unit, practicing rhyming with Dr. Seuss' books, and beginning an author study on Dr. Seuss.  We will plan a small presentation for parents where we will read poems that we write and present information we learn from our author study. This presentation will be on Friday, March 14th at 1:15 pm.  Please plan to join us!

If anyone is willing to make or bring snacks for this celebration, it would be appreciated!  In the past, parents have brought lots of fun Dr. Seuss-themed treats.  There are tons of ideas here.  Please let me know if you would be able to bring something!  It would be great to have 3-4 people who could help.

Have a Great Weekend

A huge thank you to all of you who sent in goodies for me today - you are so thoughtful, and have such sweet kids.  I was spoiled today!

A special thank you to Kingston's and Annalyn's moms who came in to help us today.  They helped kids sort their cards and glue into their Valentine scrapbooks, then serve snack and play some board games before we went home.  It was a very fun day!

It was also a very busy day, so I apologize that I did not get poem books ready to go home.  :(  Please spend the weekend reading poems from our blog, Speakaboos, or RAZ-Kids.  I would also love to see kids writing on their blog pages.  I will try to check throughout the weekend and reply to anybody who writes.  If you need help logging in, let me know.  There is also a great collection of learning games here.

Remember, there is no school Friday the 14th or Monday the 17th.  We will see you on Tuesday! Have a great weekend, and a Happy Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day Word Cloud

We talked about how we celebrate Valentine's Day, and things we love about Valetine's Day.  Here is our word cloud.  We then each wrote about Valentine's Day.

100th Day Pizza With 100 Toppings

Busy Day!

It turned into a very busy Friday with buddies, P.E. and an assembly!  :)  We did not get a chance to make our snack of 100 things, so I promised the kids we would do this on Monday morning.  Also, poem binders did not go home; I didn't have a chance to update the poems in them.  So please spend time visiting our Kidblogs and reading what the students wrote, and/or reading poems from our Poem of the Week page on our blog over the weekend.  Don't forget Raz-Kids and Speakaboos are also great websites to practice reading!

Carnival

The school carnival was on Friday the 31st, and it was so much fun!  I was so happy to see many of you there, supporting Beartooth Elementary and our class.  A HUGE thank you to PTA and Becky Middendorf for planning this event, and to Jamie Nevin for covering our Sucker Pull booth for me while I was at my son's basketball game.  THANK YOU, JAMIE!

Groundhog Day & 100th Day

Just a reminder we'll be making these groundhog cupcakes on Monday.  As we make them, we talk about sequencing the steps and what materials we need.  If you volunteered to bring an item for the cupcakes, please remember to send in on Monday.  Also, don't forget to check out this site and also watch the news to see if the groundhog sees his shadow or not on February 2nd!

We will celebrate our 100th Day of School on Friday the 7th.  Many of you volunteered to bring in snack for our special "100 Snack".  Items I still need are: popcorn and pretzels.  If you can bring one of these items, please let me know.  Thank you!
