Thank you, PTA!

Our Beartooth PTA does so much to enrich the educational experience of Beartooth students!  Check the PTA page on the Beartooth website, or the PTA Facebook page for information on what PTA does and upcoming PTA events.  Mrs. Piltz' kids give a HUGE THANK YOU to our PTA!

Groundhog Day Predictions

The kindergartners predicted whether or not the groundhog will see its shadow on February 2nd.  We then graphed our predictions and analyzed the graph data.  They each made a groundhog and added a sentence indicating whether they think he will see his shadow or not.  Be sure to watch the news or check this link on February 2nd to see if their predictions are right!

Groundhog Snack Supplies - Update

We have Teddy Grahams left over from the 100th Day snack, so we only need chocolate pudding cups and crushed Oreos for our special groundhog snack on Thursday the 31st.  Thanks!

100th Day!

The kids had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th day of school with Mrs. Mehling!

Also, on Friday the 1st we will have a "Football Day" to celebrate the Super Bowl!  Encourage your kids to wear their favorite team colors or shirts or jerseys.  If anyone would like to provide a fun snack, please let me know.  Thanks!

Marshmallow Measuring

Today the kids practiced measuring different objects using mini marshmallows and regular marshmallows.  They worked together in small groups to measure, then recorded their findings.  Afterwards, they got to eat some marshmallows (I think this was their favorite part!)

Know any Kindergartners for Next Fall?

Now is the time to get registered for the fall.  The more students who register now, the better job we can do at making sure we have the right number of teachers.  If you have a kiddo at home who will be starting school in the fall, or know a friend who does, please visit the Billings Public Schools website for enrollment information and paperwork, or stop by the school office.  Thank you!

January Student of the Month

Congratulations!

I have recently posted a project to request funding on the Donors Choose website.  My goal is to raise funds to purchase an additional iPad for our classroom.  The more tools that we have, the more impact it will make on the kindergartners' learning!  I am asking you to consider making a donation to our project (it can be for as little or as much as you would like, even $5 would be awesome!), or sharing the link with your friends and family who may be interested in donating.  I think the Donors Choose organization is really powerful, in that we can each contribute a little bit to get a big reward.  How exciting!  Information on our project can be found by clicking the image above or this link.  Please considering copying and sharing this link with others that you think might be interested.

Thank you for your support!

Weekend Homework

Your child has her poem book and a writing page titled "How to Build a Snowman."  I asked them over the three day weekend to be sure to read poems from their book (as well as other stories with you) and try to find time to write the steps to building a snowman.  As you help them, talk about the steps of writing (what comes first, next, last).  If they bring their completed homework back to school on Tuesday, they will get a prize.

Have a great weekend!

Snow Experiment

Today we read a poem by Deanna Jump called "Why?" and talked about why we don't see snowmen in July.  We then conducted an experiment, predicting what would happen when the snow melted, talking about the process for our experiment and discussing our conclusions.  Have your kindergartner talk to you about this fun experiment!

Walruses

This week we have learned about walruses.  We labeled parts of a walrus, and made our own non-fiction books with walrus facts.  The kindergartners also made this cute walrus project. (Courtesy of Deanna Jump.)

Thank you First Interstate Bank and KTVQ!

Our class was surprised this morning by First Interstate Bank and KTVQ, who brought us a $300 check to buy accessories for our iPads!  We are so excited and so grateful to receive this One Class at a Time Grant!

Our "story" will be on the KTVQ news on Monday 1/7/13 at 5:30 and 10:00, and then again on the Tuesday morning program.
