Billings Public Schools uses the LEAD21 series to meet Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. Each Lead21 unit focuses on a science or social studies-related topic, teaching content while giving students tools to comprehend leveled text. Teachers and students practice these skills through a variety of literacy tasks, including shared reading and writing together as a whole class, small group reading, writing in journals or workshop folders, literacy centers, and incorporating technology.
Students can login to their Lead21 homepages here. There are many great learning resources and books to read that connect with our curriculum. Scroll to the bottom of this page for links to Symbaloo webmixes of each unit's books for kindergarten. There is also a link that will provide you with Symbaloo webmixes of other grade level's differentiated readers.
Parents can help at home by asking their children to find this letter in everyday print, such as cereal boxes, magazines, signs, etc. Ask kindergartners to tell the letter name, and the sound it makes. They can also practice writing the letter, using a variety of materials and methods. Click here for some ideas. Remind the kindergartner to start at the top of the letter when writing.
Another fun resource are the Storybots alphabet videos. Click the image below to access the videos, and check out the website for other great tools and resources.
