Mo Willems
This week as we talk about "things that go", we will read one of my favorite stories, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems. The students LOVE this story. Visit the Pigeon Presents website for fun activities involving the penguin and other Mo Willems characters.
Book Club Orders Due May 5th
Remember that Scholastic Book Club orders are due by May 5th. You can order online (instructions on sidebar) or send the form and your payment to school with your child. Thank you!
Going to the Moon!
We had a great time making our astronaut suits today. A huge THANK YOU to all of the parents who were generous enough to send in supplies for the suits, banana rockets and applesauce "space food". It is greatly appreciated!
Eating space food
The kindergartners tried eating food like astronauts do. Since astronauts couldn't eat applesauce with a bowl and spoon, we put ours into a Ziploc bag and the kids had to suck it out of the bag. Some of them liked it ... and some of them did NOT. :)

Here is a "recipe" for the banana rockets we made at school today. Try making them at home, and remember to "count down" with your child before adding the whipped cream "blast off"! Thanks to everyone who sent in supplies!

Ms. Jimison
Ms. Jimison's last day in our classroom will be Friday, April 30th. We will be having a small farewell party. If you would like to help your kindergartner write her a card or draw her a picture, we will present it to her. I will also be purchasing a gift from the class.
Summer "Birthdays"!
Since we have so many kindergartners with summer birthdays, we are going to give them each the opportunity to celebrate with their classmates during the month of May. Each kindergartner with a summer birthday has been given a "fake birthday" in May. The calendar will be sent home on Monday.
On your child's "fake birthday", you are welcome to send in a birthday treat. He or she will receive a card and gift from me to celebrate their "special day"! If you choose not to participate, that is fine, too!
If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for helping us to celebrate these special kindergartners!

NASA Kids' Club
For the next two weeks, Mrs. Piltz' kindergartners will be learning about space. This is one of the kindergartners' favorite things to learn about! We will be working with our 3rd grade buddies to play some of the fun and educational games on the NASA Kids' Club website ... you might also want to play at home with your child.

Flat Tyler!
Our class is hosting a "student" from Vaughn, Washington until May 14th. The student is Flat Tyler, based on the character Flat Stanley from the book by Jeff Brown. While the "flat student" is here, we will be busy showing him around our class and school, so that Mrs. Winderl's kindergartners in Vaughn, Washington can learn about Mrs. Piltz' kindergartners in Billings, Montana!
Today we met Flat Tyler. We plan to take him with us to music and library this week. The kindergartners are very excited to show him around Beartooth Elementary School!

The Story of Shep
Ms. Jimison has been reading the story of Shep: Our Most Loyal Dog by Sneed B. Collard III to the kindergarten students. They have enjoyed learning about Shep, and reading a story written by a Montana author about events that happened in our state. For more information about Shep, including a short video and photographs, please click here.
