Favorite Dr. Seuss Books using Do Ink Green Screen App

I have really wanted to try using a green screen app to make videos with students, but never found the time when I was teaching kindergarten.  I was so happy that my friend Mrs. Niemeyer wanted to try it, too, and she let me come to her class today to help her first graders make some videos using the app Do Ink.  I purchased this app in a bundle with a Do Ink Animation app for $5.99.  You can purchase it separately for $2.99.

I am by no means an expert at this, and I still have much to learn.  But as a newbie, this app was really easy to use and I think our videos turned out pretty cute.  The first graders were really surprised to see their favorite Dr. Seuss books projected LARGE behind them as they talked.

Math Antics - free videos!

During Geek in the House at Bitterroot today, I learned of a cool tool from Mr. White called Math Antics.  This site has a paid subscription fee for exercises and activities, but they offer many fun, engaging videos for free.  Looks like it's geared more toward intermediate and middle school grades, but definitely worth checking out!

Hide and Seek Game

The kindergartners enjoyed playing a math game today called "Hide and Seek". They needed to roll a die, then move their marker that many spaces. When they landed on a number, they needed to say what the number was, and write the number on their white board. This was a fun way to practice identifying numbers 10-31!

Thanks to the Beartooth PTA, our kindergartners have been enjoying their own subscription of "Time for Kids" magazine each week. They love reading these, and hopefully you are enjoying reading them together at home and doing the activities each week. Thanks, PTA!

A HUGE thank you to representatives from United Way of Yellowstone County and First Interstate Bank. They visited our room today to read to the kindergartners, and present each of the students with their own copy of The Gingerbread Man by Jim Aylesworth. The kindergartners are so excited about their new books!

Gingerbread Men Measuring

Our sixth grade buddies came to our room today to help us measure gingerbread men. We used a variety of items like marshmallows, M&Ms and gumdrops to measure how tall the gingerbread men were. First we estimated how many we thought it might take, then we used the items to measure. Afterwards, we got to eat our treats! This was a fun project!
