George Washington eBook

We created an eBook about George Washington using the iPad app Book Creator.  If you would like to download the eBook, open this link from a device (such as an iPad or iPhone) and click "open in iBooks".  This should download the eBook into your iBooks!

Royal Readers

I am going to start tracking student minutes read using our awesome RAZ-Kids program, and assigning a Royal Reading King and Queen each week.  This will be the boy and girl who have read the most minutes.  I hope to start this in a couple of weeks ... I am going to give everyone a chance to logon and start accumulating minutes!  Students can login by visiting this site (no passwords are set up for them).  If you have any trouble, please email me.

Happy Reading!

"Let it Go" with classroom instruments

So many of your kiddos are big Frozen fans (like me!) and I thought they would enjoy this.  It is a video of Idina Menzel singing "Let it Go" with Jimmy Fallon & friends ... using kids' instruments.  :)  Very cute!  Click the image below and enjoy!

Tooth Experiment

We concluded our egg/tooth experiment today.  I gave the students "homework".  If they write their conclusions about each egg and bring it back to school, they can choose a prize.

Lead 21 Books

Our district's language arts curriculum, Lead 21, offers many wonderful stories for students to read.  Some we read together, and some we read in small groups.  All books that we read in small groups coincide with the unit and theme question we are studying.  Following the example of my friend Mrs. Niemeyer, I put all of the books for the unit we are studying into a Symbaloo mix, so that your child could access and read each story (and not just the stories we are reading in his or her small group).  As you read with your child, talk to him about connections he makes with our theme question and the Big Books we read together!

I will continue putting stories into webmixes for each unit.  You will be able to access these using the side menu of our blog, under "ABCs & Lead 21 Resources".

Dental Health

We have spent this week talking about keeping our teeth healthy!  Today we did an art project from Sarah Cooley's awesome unit.  We made these teeth and labeled the enamel, dentin and pulp layers.

Spirit Day

Tomorrow is a Student Council-sponsored "spirit day".  Kids can wear pajamas to school.  Please be sure they are warm and school-appropriate.  If it is warm enough to go outside, we will go, so remember they still need boots, coats, hats, gloves, etc.

Celebrating our Country

We are learning about ways that we celebrate, and celebrating our country.  We talked and wrote about the presidents, and made these cool flags.  We learned that flags are a symbol of our country.

Love these cute craft projects from A Cupcake for the Teacher.

Snowy Day

I haven't seen this much snow in a long time!!!
This is the view outside our door!

George Washington

This week we have watched videos and read stories about George Washington.  Today we discussed all of the things we learned about George Washington, and made them into a Word Cloud.
Then, we each wrote one or two sentences about President Washington.  We are making those sentences into an eBook about George Washington using the iPad app Book Creator.  I am so excited to share the finished product with you!

Dr. Seuss Celebration

Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day are right around the corner.  We will begin a fun unit, practicing rhyming with Dr. Seuss' books, and beginning an author study on Dr. Seuss.  We will plan a small presentation for parents where we will read poems that we write and present information we learn from our author study. This presentation will be on Friday, March 14th at 1:15 pm.  Please plan to join us!

If anyone is willing to make or bring snacks for this celebration, it would be appreciated!  In the past, parents have brought lots of fun Dr. Seuss-themed treats.  There are tons of ideas here.  Please let me know if you would be able to bring something!  It would be great to have 3-4 people who could help.
