Apple Tree Graph
Thank you to everyone who brought in apples for our taste testing today. The kindergartners loved trying the red, yellow and green apples. We graphed our favorites and filled in the totals on ten frames. We like yellow and red apples best!

Chicka, Chicka 123 Song
This week we are reading Chicka, Chicka 123 by Bill Martin, Jr. which is about numbers climbing up an apple tree. The kids love this fun song and video. Have them identify the numbers as they climb up (and down) the tree!

Scholastic Paws for Reading Program
The kindergartners will soon have the opportunity to participate in Pizza Hut's Book It! Reading Program, which is a fun way to encourage them to read and earn FREE pizza! :) Scholastic also has a fun reading incentive program called Paws for Reading. Kids get to pick if they want to be on the cats' team or dogs' team and help their team earn points by logging in to www.scholastic.com/paws and recording their minutes read. Scholastic will donate a book to charity for every 20 minutes a child reads at home. If you would like to participate, please email me for your child's login name and password and this could be a fun read-at-home incentive program.
Student of the Month
Each month we will pick a Student of the Month for our class. This student gets to have a McDonald's lunch with Mrs. McCall to celebrate. We look for students who:
1) Are good friends to others,
2) Always try their best, and
3) Follow directions.
This month's Student of the Month is Leah.

Book It! Program
Starting in October we will participate in Pizza Hut's Book It! Reading Program. This is not a required program, but it is a great way to motivate your kindergartners to read at home. Visit the Book It! site for more information. A letter and reading log will be sent home in your child's red folder next week.
Teddy Bears
Thank you to everyone who contributed snacks or drinks for our picnic, and who helped their kindergartner remember to bring their animal. We had a fun day! The kindergartners did a great job of sorting and grouping the animals by like attributes, and then figuring out how to create a graph of the bears. I have uploaded a short video of our picnic. Have a great weekend!

Getting Home
If on a certain day your kindergartner will be going home a different way than usual (i.e. Grandma is picking up, they are riding the bus, not going to daycare for one day, etc) please SEND A NOTE with your kindergartner so that we know. We are never sure when they just tell us and want to be certain we are getting them home safely. Thank you!
Girl Scouts
If your daughter is interested in joining Girl Scouts, an information sheet was sent home yesterday. A Girl Scouts representative will be at our Open House on Thursday, September 20th. For more information, contact Briana at 252.0488 or brianar@gsmw.org.

Teddy Bear Picnic
On Friday, September 21st we will have a Teddy Bear Picnic to culminate a week of the letter Bb and reading and writing about bears. Students will be able to bring their teddy bear (or other stuffed animal) to school on that Friday. We will sort, graph and count the bears.
If anyone is interested in providing a treat for our picnic, it would be appreciated. Last year we had bear-shaped cookies and juice. In the past we have also had biscuits and honey to try. Thank you!

Environmental Print
Watch for this letter coming home next week. We will be reading environmental print and making a class book to read in our Reading Center. We will need your help sending in fun items from home to read.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!
Thanks to everyone who brought in supplies for our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! trees. The kids really loved making this fun treat. I will post pictures soon of your kindergartners with their trees. They also really love the two Chicka Chicka Boom Boom songs/videos posted on our "Favorite Links" section below. Enjoy!
