Catapult Challenge part 2
After watching the YouTube video posted below, we built our catapults and predicted what items would "fly" further. We launched marshmallows, pennies, pom poms, pretzels, Goldfish crackers and small plastic cubes. The kids all discovered that the pennies flew furthest, and concluded it was because pennies were heaviest. This was a fun activity and a great way to finish up our Project Lead the Way unit about pushes and pulls.
The kids' Launch Logs were sent home this week. The end of the Launch Log features an area where they can write in detail about the Design Process steps, as related to a creation (like the catapults). I knew we wouldn't have time to do this writing after building our catapults, but if you are looking for a writing project to kick off the summer, this would be fun! Have your kindergartner write in her Launch Log about designing and building her catapult.

Citizens of the Year
Congrats to our Citizen of the Year winners. It was so hard to choose only two kids from this wonderful class. But Makayla and Landon are superstars. Check back soon for an end of the year slideshow with more photos from our last week in kindergarten!
Catapult Challenge
To finish up our fun Project Lead the Way learning, we are challenging Mrs. Sigurdson's kindergarten to a catapult challenge! We are building catapults using popsicle sticks, and then will see which items will go the furthest, after making some predictions. It should be a fun afternoon!

Our Summer is So Bright!
We found this great idea on the blog Third Grade Love. We Tweeted what we are excited to do this summer, then wrote on the sunglasses and drew pictures of ourselves because our summers are so bright! Here are some examples of the great work the kindergartners did today.

End of the Year Celebration ... We Walked the Red Carpet!
Thanks to those of you who were able to join us for our Walk the Red Carpet celebration this afternoon. The kindergartners were amazing! A HUGE, GINORMOUS thank you to Heather Greeno for making this event so special with her incredible talents, and to the parents who helped by bringing in delicious treats. The photo gift and Target card are so special and generous - I am truly grateful. This has been a spectacular year - I guess this is why I am moving on to a new position next fall. This group of kindergartners cannot be topped. I am going out with a bang! :)
If anyone has photos they could share from this afternoon's celebration, I would really be appreciative. I would love to put together a slideshow for our classroom blog.
Looking forward to a fantastic end of our week together! Thanks again! Mrs. Piltz
