Friendship Feast and Early Out Day

Don't forget tomorrow is our Friendship Feast - please remember to send in your item for the feast.  Also, it is an early out day, so dismissal is at noon.  There is no school Wed-Fri.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Brain Break

We needed a little break (since no outside recess today-yikes!) so I let students choose some songs from our "Brain Breaks" videos.  I thought they were concentrating so hard and so cute trying to learn Kung Fu Fighting ... I had to share a little snippet.  :)  (see above)

Thanksgiving Beginning Sounds

Today we used the interactive whiteboard and our Weekly Reader to identify beginning sounds of Thanksgiving words.  You can access this content here.  (Email me for the parent code).

Mmmm...Pie!

Yesterday we painted pumpkin pie slices that will go on our graph: "Do you like pumpkin pie?"  Tomorrow we will taste test pie and complete our graph.

Play this Fun Turkey Game!

We love the story The Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman.  Play this fun game and try to find Pete the Turkey!

Check out this site for lots of other fun Thanksgiving games!

#PiltzMysteryNumber

We are playing a mystery number game on our Twitter account.  Search for #PiltzMysteryNumber on Twitter, and try to guess the next number in our number pattern.  Please reply with what your guess is, and why you think so.  (i.e. I think the next number is 35, because you are skip counting by 5s.)  Love this idea from @MrsWideensClass!

Snack

We are running very low on snack!  If you can send in any extras, it would be appreciated!  Thank you!

Owl Facts

We made these adorable owls last week (thanks for the cute owl template, Mrs. Huck!)  and wrote facts that we learned about owls.

We are Kinder-Bloggers!

http://kidblog.org/MsPiltzsClass-2/
Today we tried our hand at blogging on our new blog site, Kidblog!  This is a really great tool, built for classroom use.  Each student has their own private "blog page" that parents will have access to.  We are going to use that as a "digital portfolio" of our writing.  When you log in (and I will get you the access codes as soon as possible), you will see that the kids are in the very beginning stages of writing.  The extra challenge is getting used to using a computer keyboard; finding letters, punctuation, etc.  But it was a great "start" and I am excited to see what they will accomplish and share.

Eventually, I would love for parents and other classmates to comment on students' blog posts (i.e. writing) and for the students to be able to respond.  What a wonderful tool - I am excited!

The Mixed-Up Chameleon

Our buddies in Mrs. King's kindergarten shared their Mixed Up Chameleon pictures with us.  So cool!  They also mailed us some "pen pal" letters and pictures.  We are excited to continue getting to know them throughout the year.

Tweet with Us

Twitter has been a great, quick way to get the kids to share fun and interesting things they learn throughout the day.  It is quick and easy to join.  Follow us @MrsPiltzK ... here are some sample tweets.  :)

Building Teen Numbers

We had fun building teen numbers using unifix cubes.  We used the video below to help us build.

Thankful Platefull

Information about our Thankful Plateful project will come home with your child tomorrow.  This is a fun project to work on at home; filling your plate with all of the things your child is thankful for.  We will share in class on Monday the 25th.  Here is an example of my Thankful Platefull. :)

Survey: Have You Ever Seen a Real Owl?

We practiced tally marks by taking a survey about whether or not we have ever seen a real owl.  Then we talked about which was more and which was less.  We used the interactive whiteboard to practice this.  Thanks to Deanna Jump for this great idea.

I love visiting with @AudreyBrammer on Twitter!  I am hoping more of you will join us!  I am a Twitter newbie, too, but I find it is a great, quick way to let the kids share with you what they are learning.  Take a minute to sign up for a free account and follow us @MrsPiltzK
